There are cars with an extraordinary destiny.

Surely, the Lancia STRATOS is of this caliber. As often in these cases, the story ends badly and feeds the myth. A car entirely dedicated to the race, it makes no compromises and sweats passion and sportiness.

Based on the Italian know-how with the collaboration of Bertone, Lancia and Ferrari, Italy offers us what it knows best.

Three years after the introduction of the STRATOS Zero, production finally began in 1973. At least 400 models must be manufactured to obtain approval in Group 4. Therefore, cars must now be assembled as quickly as possible.

At the same time, it is also necessary to develop the rally version of the STRATOS, which will eventually be very close to the commercial car. The main modification will be made by the engine. The V6 at 65° with 2,418 cc displacement is equipped with 4 valves per cylinder. Powered by three Weber 48 IDF carburetors, it develops a maximum power of 280 hp at 7,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 275 Nm at 6,000 rpm. This engine is coupled with a five-speed manual ZF gearbox.

Fortunately, prior to obtaining approval in Group 4, the STRATOS is already involved in the rally Group 5 category and the first successes have already been achieved. In the middle of 1974, the STRATOS was finally approved in Group 4 and, in the hands of factory pilots and a few independent pilots, it started an incredible journey.

Italian driver Sandro Munari, who became a rally legend, led the STRATOS to the first of his World Rally Championship victories at the San Remo Rally in October 1974. The car, whose qualities on the road are undeniable, will also prove to be brilliant on land and on snow and will dominate the rally world by winning the three World Championships of the specialty in 1974,75 and 76.

Between 1973 and 1978, less than 500 STRATOS cars were built, including almost 50 racing cars. Needless to say, it has gone down in history as one of the most legendary rally cars of all time.

It is part of a series of very successful Lancia rally cars, including the one that preceded Fulvia HF and its substitutes the 037 and Delta. We must never forget to mention that there would not have been a Lancia STRATOS without the persistence of Bertone and Fiorio's enthusiasm for this amazing project.

History of the proposed model: chassis 001 526

The proposed vehicle has a rare 24-valve engine, which after a refurbishment by Lorrtec develops 303 horsepower after being passed and adjusted on the bench.

The car was prepared at the time by Chequered Flag for Mr. Griffiths GRENVILLE, who races with the car in England and had a red livery (see archival photos of the time).

Griffiths Grenville died a few years ago.

The car was entirely restored between 2015 and 2016 by Jacques DELMAS, with a restoration from chassis. Documented restoration with all the invoices of the work attached to the file, as well as many photos of the interventions.

Restoration by the books, respecting the origin of the vehicle while bringing modern touches for safety:

. Lightweight carbon fiber front and rear hood.

And to complete the restoration, this STRATOS received in 2017 a new engine prepared by Lorrtec, as well as a new gearbox by Vaison Sport.
